This month's nominees are...

Nirvana

At the height of hair metal, a group from Seattle the combined punk, garage and classic rock influences took the world by storm and ushered in the alternative music revolution. 1991’s Nevermind and 1993’s In Utero are considered some of the most important albums of their time. Lead singer Kurt Cobain’s suicide left a legacy that would never become tarnished. The true name in 1990s rock.

.38 Special

Formed in the shadow of Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special had a pretty popular run in the early 1980s. Taking an influence of southern rock and making it arena friendly, Hold On Loosely and Caught Up In You became massive hits. The band continued to have success through the 80s and still tours today.

Scorpions

Formed in Germany, they are one of the biggest selling bands in the world. From 1965 to the late seventies the band was under the radar in the US but was playing big venues across the Atlantic. Their hard rock sound finally became popular in the US and the mid 80s was a huge period for the band. They continue to tour today.

Styx

Combining music theater, prog, ballads and hard rock, Styx had big rock hits from 1973 – 1983. They had 4 albums that went multi platinum and at one point were one of the biggest bands in rock. The most interesting fact is that it took 7 albums to finally have a big hit. 1977’s “The Grand Illusion” and 1978’s “Pieces of Eight” are considered their masterpieces.
