Car: Chevrolet Z16 Chevelle Convertible
What makes it special: It's as rare as rare can be. Of 200 promotional showcase coupes that were built, only ONE convertible was ever produced.
What made it famous: Z16 Chevelles were produced as high-profile showcases for the new street version of the "Mark IV Mystery motor" that would be available in a few years throughout the Chevrolet line, complete with a driveline that was able to handle the beefed up power.
Why I would want one: It's a "one-of-one." The only one of it's kind...it's like asking those who climbed Mt. Everest why they did it. Plus, the fact that it was equipped with an L37-code, 375hp 396 V8 with four-bolt main, 11:1 compression, Holley 3310 4-barrel carb, and a Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. Need I go further?
Fun fact: Actually, it may be a SAD fact. (The jury's still out on THIS one) Rumor has it that this one of one, rare super awesome convertible may have been crushed years ago, although there is no records to back up that claim. It could be still lurking around, hidden in someone's garage or barn...to be discovered and reborn again. Let's hope so.
