Car: Studebaker Avanti
What makes it special : The fiberglass bodied Avanti was produced for only 2 years for Studebaker, it was ahead of it time with a "rakish" design.
What made it famous: Famed race car driver Andy Granatelli teamed up with Paxton Superchargers to develop supercharged V8's for the Avanti. They ran from the 290 hp 289 "R2" V8, and a bored-out 304.5 ci "R3" V8 version.
Why I would want one: It's a timeless design that has never been duplicated with cool features like a huge rear window, built-in rollbar, and an air scoop under its thin front bumper.
Fun Fact: An experimental Avanti "R5" motor had two Paxton superchargers, magneto ignition, and Bendix fuel injection that developed an incredible 575 horsepower. And by the way, the name "Avanti" is Italian for "forward."
