Car: "Manta Ray" Corvette
What makes it special: It was the last "shark inspired" Corvette prototype by GM Styling head honcho Bill Mitchell.
What made it famous: It had an extended rear fascia and roofline that came to a point, it also was given side pipes that were crafted into the side rocker panels and a blue / white shark-like paint job. For hard braking and turn signaling, "flip open" taillights would pop up out from atop the rear deck of the car.
Why I would want one: It was equipped with an all aluminum ZL-1 V8 engine with a special " Manta Ray only" air cleaner. That ZL-1 V8 would become an option for the 1969 regular production Corvettes.
Fun fact: Because it doubled the price of a Corvette, no one was willing to shell out the money to actually buy a Manta Ray, so only two examples were ever produced. Both still exist to this day. (By the way, it actually cost General Motors about $3 Million to build the Manta Ray)
