AJ's Car Of The Day: Dodge Charger Super Bee

Car: Dodge Charger Super Bee

Year: 1971

What makes it special: It was the first year the Super Bee model was moved to the Dodge Charger platform. Since an R/T version of the Charger already existed, the Super Bee was promoted as the low-priced model in the line.

What made it famous:  Only 5,054 were produced, including 22 with the famed Hemi V8 engine. And 1971 was the first and only year that a 4-barrel 340 small block V8 became available in the Super Bee.

Why I would want one: It was the last hurrah for the famed "Super Bee" option, and what better way to go than in the top of the line Charger model? It was a great combination, and would be super cool to own as such.

Fun fact: Even though the 4-barrel 440 Magnum V8 was not an available option with the Super Bee for the 1971 model, 26 are known to have been built. Also, the "Super Bee" name was discontinued until re-emerging as the 2007 Dodge Charger SRT-8 Super Bee.
