AJ's Car of the Day: 1957 Chevrolet One-Fifty Handyman Wagon
Car: Chevrolet One-Fifty Handyman Wagon
What makes it special: They were the workhorse. It was a two door, 6-passenger wagon. They were used by funeral homes, painting contractors and even as delivery vehicles for businesses that wanted more seating when needed.
What made it famous: It was the lowest budget, two-door wagon available, unlike the pricey, more popular Nomad wagon for that year.
Why I would want one: They are fairly rare today, since most of them were "used and abused," then scrapped when no longer of service, unlike the higher priced Nomads, which were immediately pampered and garaged. Since the Nomad was more popular, there are more survivors to this day than the One-Fifty. As shown in the photo, the One-Fifty makes for awesome street rod material.
Fun fact: Most One-Fifty Wagon models if found are usually kept around farms or businesses as a storage shed or in one case, a chicken coop. A most undignified ending to a classic in my humble opinion.
