AJ's Car of the Day: 1965 Pontiac Tempest Convertible
Car: Pontiac Tempest Convertible
What makes it special: For 1965, the Pontiac Tempest as well as the other Pontiac A-Body platform offerings received a restyle, with stacked headlights over the side by side version of the prior year. Other styling changes included revised taillights and a more slanted rear deck.
What made it famous: It's 326 HO V8 was uprated to 285 hp, also new split grille, crisper styling, and three-inch-longer body.
Why I would want one: It's less common to have a Tempest due to the demand for it's performance sister version the GTO. Since there are more GTO's on the road today than Tempests, it makes the Tempest stand out just a little more.
Fun fact: The Tempest name was discontinued after the 1970 model year in favor of Le Mans, a nameplate previously used for the upscale versions of that series.
