AJ's Car of the Day: 1964 Pontiac GTO - Ultra-Rare Skyline Blue

Car: Pontiac GTO

Year: 1964

What makes it special: This GTO has it's original Ultra rare Skyline Blue exterior paint.

What makes it famous: Although there were earlier muscle cars produced, Pontiac's GTO is considered by many to be the one that "started it all" in the Muscle car trend, causing other American manufacturers to produce competing models.

Why I would want one: It was an "outlaw" to General Motors policy of a maximum 330 cu in engine in an A-Body intermediate. (It had a 389 cu in V8) Since the GTO was an option package for the Pontiac Tempest and NOT "standard" equipment, it fell into a loophole in the policy. (Ha-Haaa)

Fun fact: Two, actually: Pontiac's sales manager did not believe the GTO would find a market, and insisted on limiting initial production to no more than 5,000 cars. And, the 1964 Pontiac GTO came equipped with a one year only, 4-spoke steering wheel. (A very rare commodity to come across today.)
