AJ's Car of the Day: 1965 Ford Custom 500 R-code 427 V8 2-door post
Car: Ford Custom 500 R-code 427 V8 2-door post
What makes it special: The Custom 500 was the slightly better trimmed version of the base economy full sized Ford series.
What made it famous: Although the Custom line was outfitted with either an inline 6 or the small block 289 V8, the 425 hp, 427 V8 and 4-speed manual or SelectShift automatic transmission equipped version were available for police departments and performance buyers who wanted the lightest car possible.
Why I would want one: It falls along the lines of a "Sleeper." A very unassuming, plain looking, run of the mill piece of transportation that would be looked upon as a "Grandpa's car" (when in actuality, it's a wolf in sheep's clothing, looking for it's next "Stop light victim.")
Fun fact: Only 2 of these factory produced, rare R-code Ford Custom 500's with a 425 hp, 427 cu in V8 and 4-speed were produced.
