AJ's Car of the Day: 1965 Ford Falcon
Car: Ford Falcon Futura Hardtop
What makes it special: It's the last year of the second generation body style for the Falcon model. It was aimed at the youth market until the Mustang came along, it was also the last year for the "Sprint" version.
What made it famous: It had more modern styling than the first gen Falcons, a 289 V8 and a floor mounted 4-speed manual transmission was available. It was also the last year for the availability of a Convertible for the Falcon line.
Why I would want one: I've always loved the Ford Falcon line no matter what year. They've always had beautiful styling lines, and I was always a fan of the large rear taillights. They become instant hot rods with the addition of a V8 engine into their lightweight bodies.
Fun fact: Variations of the Ford Falcon were manufactured in other countries, including Australia. As a matter of fact, the black "Pursuit Special" driven by Mel Gibson in the 1981 movie "The Road Warrior" is a later model version of Australian Falcon: a 1973 Ford XB Falcon GT351.
