Car: Dodge Dart Factory Lightweight
What makes it special: It was the only Super Stock vehicle that Chrysler made in 1966, with only 50 produced. They were a Factory Dart package that was built for the sole purpose of Drag Racing and qualifying for the NHRA's D/Stock category, with its 275 hp rated 273 V8 and weighing in at just over 2900 lbs. With a Vehicle Identification Number that begins LO23, the package includes specialty items like: 699 - Special Order (Super Stock Dart); 409 - Special Order Axle; 364 - Super Stock; 624 - heavy-duty suspension; 32 - engine code; 554 - delete rear seat belts; 393 - 4-speed transmission; 21 - 6.95 X 14 BSW rayon 2-ply tires; 408 -Sure Grip; P4H - trim code (red); WW1 - paint code (white) and bucket seats.
What made it famous: These cars originally started life as stock Dart GT's. The normally 235 hp 273 V8's were then given an added 40 hp with bolt on goods like: Racer Brown valve springs, a Camcraft 284-degree .500" lift cam, Doug's Headers, and a Holley 4160 carburetor topping the stock intake. All were equipped with the A-833 Hurst shifted 4-Speed, Weber clutch components, and an 8 3/4 Suregrip rear with 4.86 gears.
Why I would want one: I'm always in for the "not everybody has one" when it comes to cars. And factory Hot Rods mean that the engineering homework was done so there's less chance for something to go wrong later on. With only 50 made, there's the rare factor....plus, let's face it. It's just cool.
Fun fact: A 1966 Dodge Dart Factory Lightweight was tested at the time by Car Craft magazine. It ran a quarter-mile time of 14.33 at 92.21 mph.
