Car: Dodge Dart 340 Sport GTS Convertible
What makes it special: It was Dodge Divisions' rival to the small block Chevrolet muscle cars. Underrated at 275 bhp, a 340 Dart could crack off easy mid-14-second ET's, to the embarrassment of many a big-block supercar.
What made it famous: The GTS was available with V8 power ranging up to a 383 or 440 cu in engine, but for those who chose the 340 V8 in the option box got a V8 that not only produced 300 bhp or more, but weighed 90 pounds less than the 383. The GTS's heavy-duty suspension was a perfect match for the 340, allowing power to flow smoothly to the pavement, something that a 383 equipped Dart could not accomplish, where traction off the line was poor, and ET's were no quicker.
Why I would want one: It's quick, it's a good looking car, it's a convertible, and with a 340 V8, it can keep up with the big dogs. Loving the "Bumble-Bee" rear stripe as well !
Fun fact: The last true A-body Dart was built in the summer of 1981 in Brazil. This car is virtually identical to the U.S. market 1976 Swinger.
