AJ's Car of the Day: 1970 Plymouth Sport Fury S-23

Car: Plymouth Sport Fury S-23

Year: 1970

What makes it special: Originally created as a performance luxury car, the S-23 was based off the Plymouth Fury 2-door hardtop. Hidden headlights become optional on Sport Fury models. Only 689 S-23 were produced for 1970.

What made it famous: It was considered a "starter muscle car" of the big Plymouths, and was part of the famed "Rapid Transit System", which were a handful of Plymouth models specifically created for high performance enthusiasts. The S-23 Sport Fury was a equipped with a high performance 330 hp, 383 cu in Super Commando V8. This model is now very rare and desirable.

Why I would want one: For me, it's all about the "different" factor. The confidence of knowing that what I am driving is not like what everyone else has. The Sort Fury S-23 is a big muscle car, and the RTS status only makes it cooler.

Fun fact: The word "fury" denotes a type of anger, inspired by the Furies, mythological creatures in Ancient Greek and Ancient Roman mythology.
