AJ's Car of the Day 1962 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster
Car: Chevrolet Corvette Roadster
What makes it special: It is the last year of the first generation ( C-1) Corvette. Also, it's the last year for Corvette's having a solid rear axle. 1962 was also the last year for the wrap-around windshield and convertible-only body style.
What made it famous: In 1962, the Chevrolet 283 cu in small block V8 was enlarged to 327 cu in. In standard form it produced 250 bhp, but...for an extra 12% over list price, the fuel-injected version produced 360 bhp, making it the fastest of the C-1 generation.
Why I would want one: So many reasons...the last year for all that I already listed, plus it's just a great looking car. I love that it has the iconic front end married to the platform for the rear that was coming next year as well.
Fun fact: A Corvette has been used as the Indianapolis 500 Pace Car 12 times
