AJ's Car of the Day 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe
Car: Chevrolet Corvette L88 Coupe
What makes it special: The 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 is extremely rare, 20 were produced. Many feel those are 20 of the most desirable Corvettes ever built. When sold, they command extremely high dollars to obtain one.
What made it famous: The object of the L88 was all-out performance on the racetrack. L88's were delivered without fan shrouds, they did not have chokes and were tough to keep running until they came up to operating temperature, there was no radio and no heater. The 427 V8 equipped L88 had 12.5:1 compression, hi-lift cam, 850cfm 4 barrel carburetor and aluminum heads, and was intentionally under-rated by GM at 430hp. Word has it that "stock as delivered" L88's actually have been dyno-tested at 560hp. The ideal pairing would be to have it mated to the available M-22 4-speed manual transmission.
Why I would want one: As far as vintage Corvettes go...this is the top of the mountain. Why wouldn't you strive for the ultimate?
Fun fact: Earlier this year, a red-on-red, 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L88 2-door Coupe sold at auction in Scottsdale for $3,850,000.00.
