Car: Ford Fairlane 2-Door Post Sedan

Year: 1955

What makes it special: Named for Henry Ford's Dearborn estate, Ford's premium Fairlane line debuted alongside the original Thunderbird for 1955. These new models helped Ford record its best sales year since 1923. The new Fords had a new frame, but still with five cross members. For the first time, Ford offered seat belts as a dealer option. Also new for 1955 was Ford's first factory installed “Select Aire” air conditioner featuring cold air discharge vents located on top of the dash  on either side of the radio speaker.

What made it famous: The Fords introduced for 1955 also featured the panoramic windshields found on Oldsmobiles, Buicks and Cadillacs the previous year. The panoramic windshield gave the driver more visibility. Also, and the "Y-Block V8" was now offered in a 272 cu in version with 162 hp  with a 2-barrel carburetor and single exhaust or 182 hp with 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust, and a large 292 cu in V8 from the Thunderbird was also offered, putting out 193 hp.

Why I would want one: Being a fairlane fanatic, I would want this for fact that it is a first year Fairlane, plus the optional Thunderbird 292 V8 would make that even sweeter.

Fun fact: The Crown Victoria-style featured a chrome "basket handle" across the "Victoria" hardtop roof, which originally appeared on the Mercury XM-800 concept car.
