Car: Ford Custom "F-Code"
What makes it special: Despite not being as popular as Chevrolet's '57 Bel-Air model but outselling Chevrolet that year, Ford fitted just a few of their Custom model ( along with a handful of Thunderbirds as well ), with a McCulloch Supercharger equipped 312 cu in "Y-Block" V8.
What made it famous: These McColloch Supercharger equipped 312 cu in Y-Block V8 Ford Customs had a powerplant (more commonly known by its internal code of "F"), that was officially rated at 300hp, but in actuality the number was more like 325 hp. To no surprise, the force-fed Fords were dominant and very hard to beat in both NASCAR and USAC stock car competition for that year.
Why I would want one: Although I can find something to love from almost all major auto manufacturers, when it comes down to it, I'm a Ford guy. That being said, I'm also a HUGE fan of the 1957 Ford model year. I love the simple clean look of the Custom's bare bones appeal, and have an even greater love for it's early supercharger performance. It's a time capsule to early pioneer performance wrapped in a plain wrapper. I dig it!
Fun fact: Ford actually outsold Chevrolet for the 1957 model year by a margin of almost 500,000 units.
