Location: Cinestudio (US, 2012)Produced and directed by Lisa Immordino Vreeland. Director of photography, Cristobal Zanartu. With: Anna Sui, Calvin Klein, Diane von Furstenberg, Anjelica Huston.  One of the year’s best documentaries is a celebration of the 50-year reign of The Empress of Fashion, Diana Vreeland. Born in Paris to a genuine American ‘Mommy Dearest,’ Vreeland apprenticed with Coco Chanel before becoming the editor of Harpers Bazaar and Vogue, and costume advisor to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. One of the 20th century’s most successful women, Vreeland’s love of life and fashion established her as an arbiter of everything from the color of mittens (violet and velvet) to shampoo (champagne, of course!) Although directed by Vreeland’s granddaughter-in-law, The Eye Must Travel is not lacking a critical eye, matching the tart and pithy personality of its fabulous subject. To quote Anjelica Huston, who worked for Vreeland as a model, “She made it OK for women to be outrageous, extraordinary.” A New York Times Critics Pick.  92 min.  https://www.facebook.com/dianavreelandbookandfilm
