Show Details Tickets at Door Cover: $10.00 Advance: $10.00 Music Starts: 7:00PM Artist Descriptions Matuto (ma-two-toe) is Brazilian slang for country bumpkin. Imagine the sound of a Brazilian Carnaval in the Appalachian Mountains. A sound where dynamic percussion instruments rumble beneath blues drenched vocals, Telecaster twangs, and folksy fiddle tunes. Now, imagine these sounds in the hands of some of NYC’s finest young improvisers as they light up club and festival stages world wide. LISTENThomas Kivi is a alt-roots/rock songwriter from Minneapolis, Minnesota. In a day-and-age obsessed with the next new thing, Kivi has toured the U.S. and Europe playing songs that honor his traditional influences–painting lyrical of tragedy and triumph in 21st century America, with songs that are as old as they are simple and original. From the somber finger-picking story of a mother’s suicide “Bridalveil Falls” on his 2011 debut Crying Child, to the full-band rock’n'roll of “Cops & Crims” off of the brand new Thomas Kivi & The Immigrants EP, Kivi’s poignant imagery and simple melodies harken to older songwriters like Bob Dylan and Townes van Zandt while remaining closely related to contemporary lyrical acts likes of Mason Jennings, Bright Eyes, Bon Iver, and Wilco.
