(US, 2012) Director: Jeff Orlowski. Screenplay by Mark Marone. Cinematography by Jeff Orlowski. With: James Balog. When Chasing Ice – photographer James Balog’s one-man mission to record proof of receding glaciers – was made in 2011, it won plenty of festival awards (including Best Cinematography at Sundance ) – but no distributor. “Perhaps,” Balog said, “We have a problem of perception, because not enough people get it yet.” After this year’s destruction by Sandy, we get it – and Balog’s courageous attempt to raise awareness of the effects of global warming can now be seen on Cinestudio’s huge screen. Filled with stunning images and many hair-raising moments, Chasing Ice begins in 2007 as Balog’s time-lapse photography in the Arctic captures ancient, majestic glaciers as they disappear from Earth. “If there was ever a film that needed to be on the big screen, this is it!”- David Courier, Sundance Film Festival senior programmer. 80 min. Drs. Christoph Geiss and Jonathan Gourley of the Environmental Science Program at Trinity College will lead a Q&A discussion on global climate change immediatle following the Sunday matinee screening. http://www.chasingice.com/
