Celebrated Tisch University Professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Information Science at Cornell University, Dr. Jon Kleinberg will deliver three talks for the Della Pietra Lecture Series. Dr. Kleinberg’s first talk, aimed at high school students, will be held on Tuesday, February 26 at 11:00 am in the SCGP Auditorium, Room 103 and is titled, “What Can Big Data Teach Us About Society and About Ourselves?” That evening at 5:30 pm also in the SCGP Auditorium, he will give a talk geared towards undergraduates and the general public: “Computational Perspectives on Social Phenomena at Global Scales.” Both talks will discuss issues of social media including knowledge sharing, privacy, and their impact on social interactions on and off line. These talks are free and open to the public. A small reception will precede the evening lecture. Dr. Kleinberg will also deliver a technical seminar open to faculty, advanced graduate students and those with a background in the advanced sciences. “Probabilistic Models for Cascading Processes in Networks” will take place on Wednesday, February 27 at 11:00 am in the SCGP Lecture Hall, Room 102.
