This Day in Music History: October 31st

1998: Kiss kicked off their tour in support of Psycho Circus the first album with their original lineup in 18 years at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles with the Smashing Pumpkins opening for them. This was the first concert tour to have 3-D visual effects.

1997: MTV premiered their Live at the 10 Spot series broadcasting the first thirty minutes of Jane’s Addiction’s Halloween concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

1990: Billy Idol dumped 600 dead fish in the dressing room of opening act Faith No More before a concert in Seattle. Faith No More responded by streaking onstage during Idol’s set.

1986: Roger Waters brought a lawsuit in the Chancery Division of the High Court in London to stop David Gilmour and Nick Mason from using the Pink Floyd name for future recording and touring. The following year both sides reached a settlement with Gilmour and Mason allowed use of the Pink Floyd name & Waters granted The Wall.

1975: Queen released “Bohemian Rhapsody” which at the time of its release was the most expensive single ever recorded. The song would reach number one in the U.K. on two occasions & reach the top ten in the U.S. twice peaking at number nine in 1976 & at number two in 1992.

1974: Led Zeppelin officially launched their record label Swan Song with a party at the Chislehurst Caves in the U.K. which was attended by the likes of Bill Wyman and Groucho Marx.

1974: Cheap Trick made their live debut at Charlotte’s Web in their hometown Rockford, IL.

1970: Led Zeppelin’s third album, Led Zeppelin III reached the top of the Billboard 200 Album Chart for the beginning of a four week run at number one. It was their second number one album in the U.S.

1967: The Stooges made their live debut at their house on State Street in Ann Arbor, MI for a Halloween concert.
