Car: Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna S-3
What makes it special: The 1974 Chevrolet Chevelle Laguna S-3 replaced the discontinued Super Sport as the sporty/performance option on the Chevelle. V8 engine offerings included a standard 145 hp, 2-barrel 350, and optional powerplants up to a 230 hp, 4-barrel 454. It retained the Endura front bumper from the previous year.
What made it famous: Clicking off on the Laguna S-3 option box brought you Laguna S-3 badging, firmer shocks/springs, a front stabilizer bar, and fat HR70x15 radial tires mounted on Rally wheels. Front swivel bucket seats, a six-dial instrument cluster and a 4-spoke, sport steering wheel.
Why I would want one: It's another "stands out in the crowd" car. Plus, you could order yours with the 454 V8 mated to a 4-speed transmission. It doesn't get cooler than that.
Fun fact: The third generation Chevelle was an extensively used body style in NASCAR from 1973 to 1977.In particular, the Laguna model was extremely successful allowing Cale Yarborough to win 34 races and earn the first two of three consecutive Winston Cup championships. Considered a limited edition model by NASCAR, the Laguna S-3 was ineligible for competition following the 1977 season.
