Hurricane Irene
Hurricane Irene

We're listening right now to your voicemails. Thanks for your feedback!

The WED has effectively completed its efforts to restore power to all of its customers.   We ask that any customer who does not have electric service at this time please call us immediately so that we can make sure we address their situation as soon as possible.

We ask our customers to remember that they are responsible for certain components of the facilities to which the WED delivers service.  If any customer-owned facilities are damaged due to a storm or accident these facilities must be repaired by a licensed electrician before the WED can safely restore power.  WED crews can only work on WED equipment.  Customers who have questions regarding which components of their electrical service are their responsibility should contact the WED Customer Service Group at (203) 265-5055 or (203) 294-2020.

HELP VICTIMS OF TROPICAL STORM IRENE

My name is Missy Lundeen.  I live in Ansonia, which, for the most part, was not affected by the hurricane.  After witnessing the devestation online, on tv and through your constant broadcasting, I need to help.  Everything that is donated will be offered to victims in need for FREE.

I am organizing a "Free Everything Drive" for any hurricane victims who are in need.  I am collecting donations of the following:

Clothes:  clean, sizes infant through xxl for both male and female all seasons (but its getting closer to fall so sweathers, sweatshirts and coats/jackets will also be needed)

Shoes:  gently used, all sizes and styles, all seasons

Toys:  clean gently used for all ages

Toiletries:  soaps, shampoo, shaving gel, tooth brushes, toothpaste (this stuff has to be new)

Bedding:  clean sheets and blankets for all size, towels, etc.

Furniture:  BUG FREE mattresses, tables and chairs, dressers, livingroom furniture

Dishes, utensils, can openers...stuff to use in the kitchen

Cleaners...like lysol wipes, floor cleaners

Food:  canned foods, non parishable foods, canned or bottled juices, water

Pets:  Dont forget about these guys!  we need dog and cat food and probably kitty litte

Also needed:  plastic shopping bags and boxes

Anything else you could possibly think of we can use!

I also need a lot of VOLUNTEERS!!

Someone who has a truck or a box truck or knows someone who has a moving van.  This is needed to pick up furniture and other donated items and get them to my storage locker in Derby.  I will also need volunteers with trucks to help load everything, bring it to our location and then at the end of the day pack what ever is left and bring it to a secondary donation center.

Volunteers to arrive at our location at 6am to help unload the trucks and cars and start organizing donation area...especially the clothes.

Volunteers throughout the day to stay and help families choose and load their cars.  You dont have to stay the entire day!

Volunteers to help pack up what is left over and loaded into the truck(s) to be delivered to the second doation site.

Hours will be as follow:  6am to 9pm.  Open to the public at 9am - 5 or 6pm.

I am also looking for a LARGE parkinglot in the Milford/Orange area that will be able to accomodate large amounts of donations and cars.  Also, I need it to be easy to get to because I am not sure how far people will be traveling for these items.  I am waiting on a call from Milford Walmart...but if that falls through I need another location

DATES:  Either saturday September 10th or 17th.  I'd prefer the 10th because people may need stuff now.  A week later may be too late.

People can contact me at 203-996-7046 or by email at missyinct@gmail.com.  Im going to see if i can set up a temporary website that people can go to for volunteer sign ups.

Any help that I can get from the public or media will be what makes this a success.  It would be great if one of the radio stations could set up and broadcast live from this event...but I know thats pushing it.

Thank you for everything.  If you have any other suggestions for me to make this a huge success please let me know.

Missy Lundeen

American Red Cross Blood Donations

Hurricane Irene has affected blood donations along the East Coast at a time when the nation’s blood supply is already low.  Since Hurricane Irene began its path along the East Coast, the storm has forced the cancellation of nearly 60 American Red Cross blood drives, resulting in the shortfall of more than 1,500 units of blood and the numbers could increase this week while areas deal with the storm’s aftermath.  For those areas not heavily impacted by the storm, the Red Cross is urging immediate blood and platelet donations and asks that community members consider donating blood in affected areas, once it is safe to do so.  Blood has a limited shelf life and platelets have a shelf-life of just five days.

The Red Cross is still working to stabilize the blood supply after our summer shortages and with a holiday weekend approaching, the need continues.

To schedule an appointment to donate blood or platelets, please visit us online at redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS.
