This Day in Music History: Wednesday, October 3rd

By Mike Lapitino

This Day in Music History...

1987:  Aerosmith's Permanent Vacation,  the second album by the reunited original line-up, enters the Top 40 of Billboard's album chart.  The album, which contains such hits as "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)," "Rag Doll" and "Angel," sparks one of rock's greatest comeback stories.

1987:  A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Pink Floyd's first album without Roger Waters, enters the Top 40.

1996:  Van Halen and David Lee Roth part ways for the second time, after the singer had recorded two songs for Van Halen's Greatest Hits.  Roth complains that his MTV Awards appearance with the band was a publicity stunt and that they never inteneded to let him rejoin.

2000:  Ex-Cars singer-bassist Ben Orr dies of pancreatic cancer at his home in Atlanta.
