This Day in Music History: Friday, September 28th

By Mike Lapitino

This Day in Music History...

1968: The Beatles' "Hey Jude" is #1.  The first single on the band's Apple label brings The Beatles their longest run atop the Billboard charts- nine weeks.  At seven minutes, 11 seconds, it's the longest song at that point to make the Billboard Hot 100.

1972:  David Bowie brings Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders of Mars to New York's Carnegie Hall for a sell-out show attended by Andy Warhol and Lou Reed.

2004:  Green Day's American Idiot debuts at #1 on the album chart.

2004:  Legendary New York City air personality Scott Muni dies at the age of 74, months after having a stroke.

2010:  Billie Joe Armstrong makes his Broadway debut, filling the role of "St. Jimmy" in his American Idiot musical at the Saint James Theater in New York.  During his six-day run in the role the show doubles its usual weekly gross.
