This Day in Music History...

1967: The Beatles record the title song for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band at Abbey Road.

1968: The Doors report that they've been offered a half-million dollars to star in a movie. They also announce plans for an ABC TV special, a humor book and a volume of lyrics and poetry by Jim Morrison. His poetry is the only one of the projects that comes to pass.

1968: At the Fillmore West in San Francisco, The Jimi Hendrix Experience begins a barnstorming 60-city, 66-day North American tour.

1988: The Cars announce their breakup.

2001: KISS announces that Eric Singer will replace drummer Peter Criss on the band's multi-year Farewell Tour.

2004: Aerosmith headline the pre-game show at the Super Bowl in Houston. Their performance is overshadowed by Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" during the halftime show.
