This Day in Music History...

1969: Paul McCartney marries American photographer Linda Eastman at the Marylebone Register Office in London. His brother Mike McGear and Beatles road manager Mal Evans are the witnesses. None of the other Beatles attends.

1982: The Police kick off the second leg of their North American touring behind Ghost in the Machine at the Sportatorium in Miami, Florida.

1983: U2 tops the UK album chart for the first time, as War enters at #1.

2007: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducts Van Halen, The Ronettes, REM, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five and Patti Smith at its annual ceremony in New York. Atlantic Records founder amhet Ertegun and James Brown are honored with posthumous tributes. Aretha Franklin performs a tribute to Ertegun.
