This Day in Music History...

1971: Prior to moving to France to become tax exiles, The Rolling Stones say goodbye to England with a farewell concert at London's Roundhouse.

1972: Carole King is the big winner at the 14th annual Grammy Awards, sweeping Record of the Year ("It's Too Late",) Album of the Year (Tapestry), Song of the Year ("You've Got a Friend") and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female (Tapestry). Carly Simon is voted Best New Artist.

2005: U2 are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Bruce Springsteen during a ceremony at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City.

2008: Sheryl Crow reveals her plan to join Fleetwood Mac, a plan that doesn't pan out.

2011: The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame holds its 26th annual induction ceremony at New York's Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. Honorees include the original Alice Cooper band, Neil Diamond, Tom Waits, Dr. John and Darlene Love, along with Leon Russell in the sideman category.
