This Day in Music History...

1966: Tom Jones is named Best New Artist. Roger Miller wins Best Contemporary (Rock and Roll) Recording for "King of the Road." James Brown win Best Rhythm & Blues Recording for "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag." The list of losers is impressive: The Beatles' "Yesterday" was a nominee for Record of the Year, while those beaten in the Best New Artist category are The Byrds, Herman's Hermits and Sonny and Cher.

1969: Led Zeppelin's debut album is panned in a review in Rolling Stone.

1980: The Clash's semi-fictional tour movie, Rude Boy, premieres in London.

2002: Liverpool remanes its airport in honor of John Lennon.

2004: George Harrison, Bob Seger, ZZ Top, Traffic and Jackson Browne are among those inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Harrison is inducted by Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, Keith Richards handles the honors for ZZ Top, Dave Matthews inducts Traffic, and Browne is inducted by Bruce Springsteen.

2010: Genesis, ABBA, The Hollies, The Stooges and Jimmy Cliff are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in the institution's 25th annual ceremony.
