1967: The Beatles' "Penny Lane" is certified gold.

1995: INXS singer Michael Hutchence goes ballistic when members of the press intrude on his rendezvous with Paula Yates, the estranged wife of Bob Geldof.

1999: Aerosmith perform "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" (from the movie Armageddon) at the Academy Awards.

1999: The Goo Goo Dolls hit the road as The Rolling Stones' opening act.

2001: MTV and VH1, critical of the violent content of the video for Madonna's "What It Feels Like for a Girl," air the clip, directed by husband Guy Ritchie, only once.
