Chaz and AJ spoke with Governor Lamont this morning about COVID-19 in Connecticut. Where are we on the “curve?” When will some businesses like gyms and salon be allowed to start opening? What is he hoping to see before the May 20th deadline that could reopen schools? Plus, his answers on unemployment, rent protection, and the quick-testing site in New Haven.

We’re lucky to have some beautiful classic theaters here in Connecticut. The Shubert in New Haven, The Warner in Torrington, and The Kate in Old Saybrook are just a few of the great historic venues here in our state. But the theater that hosted perhaps the biggest names in rock is the classic Palace Theater in Waterbury. Bands like Pink Floyd, Queen, Grateful Dead, Santana, Genesis, Alice Cooper, and Frank Zappa all performed on The Palace stage.

Today we look back at a more recent show featuring one of the biggest names in alternative rock: Jane’s Addiction.

About The Tour: In 2012 Jane’s Addiction announced a series of intimate live shows in support of their new album, The Great Escape Artist, which was released in October 2011. The U.S. tour played mostly in classic theaters across the Northeast and Midwest and kicked off in St. Louis  in February. The show at The Palace Theater in Waterbury in March was Jane’s Addiction first appearance in Connecticut since their memorable headlining performance at The Gathering of The Vibes the previous summer.

Jane’s Addiction 90-minute performance at The Palace opened with the new single, Underground, and then followed by hits Mountain Song, Just Because and Been Caught Stealing. The rest of the evening was filled with brand new songs from The Great Escape Artist, a mid-show acoustic set and fan favorites like Jane Says.

An anonymous nurse has been checking in regularly with Chaz and AJ throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and started with a rebuttal of Colin’s points. Plus, she ran through very helpful tips for wearing masks, since we have all been asked to in public now. (18:13)

Chaz and AJ could not agree on a piece of audio from the Hartford protest. What is the person yelling on the megaphone? AJ thinks it’s something about cake.. (29:55)

Boston comedian Will Noonan was on the phone to talk about 4/20, the mood in Boston, and when he thinks comedy clubs and shows will open up again. (42:15)

Jason Page on the phone to explain the latest on Major League Baseball’s plan to get the sport started, and his thoughts on A-Rod and J-Lo being interested in purchasing the Mets. (50:21)

This year Judas Priest is celebrating 50 plus years of heavy metal with a big tour that’s scheduled to come to Connecticut this September. We don’t know quite yet if their show at Foxwoods will happen or not, but one thing is for sure: Judas Priest has history of great rock shows in Connecticut. Today we look back at their 2005 show in Bridgeport.

About The Tour:Judas Priest hit the road in 2005 in support of the album, Angel of Retribution, which was the first studio album to feature singer Rob Halford since 1990. The tour lasted almost the entire year, kicking of in February in Copenhagen and finishing off in early December in Lithuania. In that span they played a total of 111 shows across Europe, Japan, North America and Latin America.

The Arena at Harbor Yard was on the second leg of the North American tour. Anthrax accompanied Judas Priest on most of the dates on the second leg. The show in Bridgeport featured not only Anthrax, but for this show only, Connecticut’s own Hatebreed. Hatebreed was a late add-on to help boost ticket sales.

Much like the Reunited North American Tour of 2004 that opened in Hartford, this tour featured a lot of the classics and fan favorites. Sprinkled in were newer songs like Judas Rising, Revolution and Hellrider.

About The Tour: Sublime with Rome is a collaboration between Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh of Sublime and singer/guitarist Rome Ramirez. This new incarnation of “Sublime” launched its first ever tour in 2010 and visited 150 cities world wide. The North American portion of the tour kicked off in Los Angeles at the legendary Hollywood Palladium on, you guessed it, 4/20. 10 years ago today! The first six dates of the tour visited other well known clubs like Denver’s Fillmore and New York’s Roseland Ballroom. But the rest of the tour played much larger venues, like Mohegan Sun Arena on August 14, 2010.

Joining Sublime with Rome on the road was The Dirty Heads, another California reggae rock band promoting their newest hit song Lay Me Down featuring Rome himself on vocals. On the tour, Sublime With Rome played a wide range of music styles including ska punk, reggae, dub, and hip hop. You’ll see in the setlist below their show at Mohegan Sun featured a mix of Sublime classics and covers from such influential artists as Peter Tosh and Bob Marley & the Wailers.
