Welcome! This section of WPLR.com is dedicated to PLR's history of remarkable jocks. Whether you're here to remember what PLR sounded like "back in the day", or you're learning about these DJs for the first time, we're excited to share this authentic vintage PLR audio with you!

Take a look and a listen. Enjoy!

Hear PLR's legendary Stoneman!

The Stoneman tapes have been a long time coming. Anytime we're out it's almost a guarantee that someone is going to ask about Stoneman.

Stoneman's real name was Joe Demaio; and he was a salesperson at WPLR. In August of 1971 the 10p to 2a DJ on WPLR walked out. As he left the building he turned to Joe and said "If you want to keep PLR on the air, you'd better change the record when this one runs out." Joe did it, and at that moment Stoneman was born.

He was moved to the night show and outperformed every other talent in the state.

This collection contains clips of Stoneman including his signature sign-off. You'll also hear some cool commercials that bring you back to a time where beer was free and AC/DC was an emerging band.

As you listen to this Connecticut legend remember one of Stoneman's favorite words....Enjoy!

 Listen to the Stoneman Tapes!
