Their time in service to protect our country is over and now crooks are trying to steal what they earned. Sadly, one out of every three American veterans have experienced a scammer trying to steal their benefits. In fact, veterans, active-duty service members and their families are nearly 40% more likely to lose money to scams and fraud.

Shady investment advisors often target veterans with promise to “maximize” their pension benefit or offer to buy out their benefits altogether. This is called Pension Poaching and vets should turn away from this tactic.

Veterans with VA benefits also get fake offers for low-cost or free medical devices or services but there is a catch, they want to get their hands on your VA information to steal your identity and ultimately your hard-earned cash.  These are scams to steal your information!

To help combat these scams against our heroes AARP launched an online resource center focused on veterans related scams. Find out how to protect yourself and loved ones from Veteran scams at www.aarp.org/VetsFraudCenter
