That year 99.1 PLR welcomed The Police to New Haven Coliseum. The Police hit the road in 1982 to promote their fourth studio album, “Ghost In The Machine,” which featured hit songs such as Every Little thing She Does Is Magic, Invisible Sun and Spirits in the Material World. Joining them in New Haven were Los Angeles new wave band The Go-Go’s, who would later headline New Haven Coliseum that same year.

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1982!
Who remembers rock concerts at Yale’s Woolsey Hall? There hasn’t been one there in a quite a while, but back in ’60s, ’70s and ’80s it wasn’t unusual to see bands like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Steve Miller Band, Cream and U2 play there.
In 1989, 99.1 PLR presented Asia to Woolsey Hall. The English progressive rock supergroup had just released its self-titled debut studio album the month before its show in New Haven. The album featured their biggest hit to date, “Heat of the Moment.” The band grew more and more popular after the Woolsey Hall show. The following year in 1983, Asia returned to New Haven, but this time instead playing back at Woolsey Hall, they headlined the much larger New Haven Coliseum.

That year PLR presented Queen at New Haven Coliseum. Queen hit the road for its “Hot Space” Tour and brought special guest Billy Squire with them. Queen was supporting its tenth studio album, “Hot Space,” which featured the 1981 hit with David Bowie, Under Pressure.
This tour ended up being Queen’s last concerts in North America to feature Freddie Mercury and John Deacon.

Judas Priest was supporting its eighth studio album, “Screaming For Vengeance,” which featured the monster hit You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.
