Soundgarden never played New Haven Coliseum. Not even Toad’s Place. But on the night of November 20, 2013 New Haven music fans got the next best thing: a solo performance by Chris Cornell himself at the beautiful, historic Shubert Theater.
Today’s Throwback Concert:
Chris Cornell
Songbook North American Acoustic Tour 2013
Wednesday November 20, 2013
The Shubert Theater – New Haven
About The Tour:After a successful 2011 solo tour, Chris Cornell went out on the road again by himself for a 30-city, two month North American tour in the fall of 2013. The tour kicked off in San Diego on October 15, 2013 and wrapped up with a pair of shows in Atlantic City in late November. On this tour Cornell covered his extensive catalogue and then some. From Soundgarden to Audioslave to stripped down covers by The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. He did a little of everything and his fans loved every second of it.
The show at The Shubert Theatre was a sellout. Every dollar of every ticket sold that night went towards The Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation, and a portion of the sales also benefited The ChildHavens Creative Music Therapy Program. Chris Cornell was all about giving back.

Remember when we all enjoyed going to live concerts? Wasn’t even that long ago, but it feels like forever.
While live concerts are on temporary hiatus due to the coronavirus outbreak, everyday we’ll look back at some of the great rock shows that came to our area.
Today’s Throwback Concert:
Queensrÿche
Hear In The Now Frontier Tour
Sunday August 3, 1997
The Meadows Music Theatre – Hartford (now The XFINITY Theatre)
About The Tour: Queensrÿche took to the road in the summer of 1997 to support its sixth studio album, Hear In The Now Frontier. Though the band saw great success in the early part of the decade, this particular album and tour didn’t have the same commercial success as Empire and Promised Land. This was Queensrÿche’s second time playing the venue formerly known as The Meadows Music Theatre. They previously played there in 1995. The Hartford show in ’97 featured a solid selection of songs, however just 5 of the 23 songs came off the new album. Interestingly both encore songs were two of those new songs.

While Mötley Crüe is gearing up for The Stadium Tour scheduled to happen (hopefully) this summer with Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, 20 years ago they were celebrating the new millennium with their own summer headlining tour with Megadeth. The show in Hartford on this tour is remembered for an unfortunate incident where the band had to end the show early.
Today’s Throwback Concert:
Mötley Crüe
Maximum Rock 2000 Tour
Opening Act: Megadeth
Saturday August 5, 2000
Meadows Music Centre – Hartford (now The XFINITY Theatre)
About The Tour: In the spring of 2000 Mötley Crüe announced its Maximum Rock 2000 Tour to support its eighth studio album, New Tattoo. This 50 amphitheater summer tour tour kicked off on June 24, 2000 in Seattle and wrapped up in early September in Pittsburgh. Mötley Crüe brought along Megadeth as its opening act for all 50 tour dates. This was the Crüe’s first tour without drummer Tommy Lee, who left the band the year before. Taking his place was former Hole drummer Samantha Maloney.
The show at the Meadows Music Centre was unfortunately cut short because a fan in the crowd threw a two-inch bolt at singer Vince Neil, hitting him in the forehead. This happened during Home Sweet Home. According to Nikki Sixx, the fan was apprehended by security and the band pressed charges.
