AJ’s Car of the Day: 1965 AMC Rambler Marlin

AJ’s Car of the Day: 1965 AMC Rambler Marlin

Car: AMC Rambler Marlin

Year: 1965

What makes it special: AMC’s Rambler Marlin was a personal luxury car built for model years 1965 to 1967. A halo car for the company, it’s fastback roof design was taken from the 1964 Rambler Tarpon show car.

What made it famous: Standard on the Marlin were reclining front seats, and it was one for the first American cars with standard front disc brakes. Engine choices ranged from the 145hp, 232 inline-6 to the AMC-designed, 270hp, 327 cu in, 4-barrel V8. Transmission choices were a floor console automatic, or the “Twin-Stick” manual transmission with overdrive, and was backed by a “Twin-Grip” limited slip rear.

Why I would want one: I have wanted one of these for years. Love the fastback design and the 327 V8 with the Twin-Stick manual transmission. Ahead of it’s time.

Fun fact: Many people dispute the fact that the 1966 Dodge Charger bears striking body style resemblance to the 1965 Rambler Marlin.

AJ’s Car of the Day: 1963 Daimler Dart V8 SP-250

AJ’s Car of the Day: 1963 Daimler Dart V8 SP-250

Car: Daimler Dart V8 SP-250

Year: 1963

What makes it special: Built for model years 1959 through 1964 by British manufacturer Daimler Company, the Daimler SP 250 was the last model launched before BSA sold the company off to Jaguar in 1960.

What made it famous: The Daimler Dart SP 250 was a fiberglass bodied roadster sports car equipped with 4-wheel disc brakes, and was powered by a 2.5 Liter, Hemi-Head V8. It was listed as a 2+2 model technically, but the rear passenger leg room was just about non-existent.

Why I would want one: It’s not cute by any means. It looks like a fish. But the Hemi-Head V8 makes me think it makes up in performance what it lacks in looks.

Fun fact: The Daimler Dart SP 250 was debuted at the 1959 NY Motor Show and was unofficially voted as the ugliest car at the show. Chrysler’s Dodge division threatened legal action if Daimler didn’t cease using the Dart name.

AJ’s “Badass Friday” Car of the Day: 1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 SD

AJ’s “Badass Friday” Car of the Day: 1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 SD

Car: Pontiac Firebird Trans Am 455 SD

Year: 1972

What makes it special: The second generation Pontiac Firebird didn’t debut until February of 1970 due to a delay from tooling and engineering issues. This generation was only available in coupe form as the convertibles stopped with the 1969 model year, and would not return until the 1991 model year.

What made it famous: Pontiac’s 455 cu in V8 first became available for the 1971 model year in either the 325hp, L75 or the 335hp LS5 HO which was standard and the only Trans Am engine option. The HO also included Ram-Air IV. Of course, the famed “Flaming” Bird adorned the hood, and the Shaker Hood made the model famous.

Why I would want one: Anyone who is a car fan either has or wanted to own a Trans Am at some point in their life.

Fun fact: During a 1972 strike, both the Pontiac Firebird and F-Body Chevrolet Camaro were nearly dropped.
