AJ’s Car of the Day: 1947 Buick Roadmaster Convertible

AJ’s Car of the Day: 1947 Buick Roadmaster Convertible

Car: Buick Roadmaster Convertible
Year: 1947
What makes it special: The Roadmaster model was Buick’s flagship model from 1936 to 1958. They shared a basic platform with Cadillac. They returned again for the 1991 to 1996 model years. After World War II ended and production began again, more chrome, swept-back fenders and a war-inspired “Bombsight” hood ornament was added
What made it famous: For the 1947 model year, Roadmasters received a new stamped grille and a separate upper bar was included. The Roadmaster name now was in red-filled script front and rear. Powering the 1947 Roadmaster was a 144hp, 2-barrel 320 cu in eight cylinder engine, mated to a 2-speed Dynaflow automatic transmission.
Why I would want one: It just screams class, style and opulence. You don’t see these every day.
Fun fact: Movie fans will recognize the Roadmaster name from the 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible used in the 1988 movie “Rain Man” starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman.

AJ’s “Badass Friday” Car of the Day: ’68 Shelby Cobra GT500 KR Convertible

AJ’s “Badass Friday” Car of the Day: ’68 Shelby Cobra GT500 KR Convertible

Car: Shelby Cobra GT500 KR Convertible

Year: 1968

What makes it special: The initials KR stood for “King of the Road,” and after Carroll Shelby’s GT500 for 1967, the natural progression was the hotter version of the 428 Police Interceptor V8, stuffed into a Ford Mustang.

What made it famous: 1968 was the first year for a Shelby convertible, and was dressed up with all the Shelby necessities, with its own fiberglass nose panels, fiberglass hood with functional scoops and air-extraction vents, decorative body-side intakes, rear spoiler and sequential turn signal taillights. A padded rollbar with inertia reel shoulder harness, gauges, and woodgrain applique dressed up the interior. The KR500 428 V8 was low-rated at 335bhp, but actually had more than was rated. It had Shelby’s diecast aluminum rocker covers and a painted Ram-Air air cleaner.

Why I would want one: It’s probably one of the most iconic Shelby products of all time.

Fun fact: After Shelby’s Cobra Roadster died after the 1967 model, Carroll Shelby used the name for his Mustang creations.
