AJ's Car of the Day

Car: Chevrolet El Camino

Year: 1967

What makes it special: It was the last year for the second generation Chevrolet El Camino. Air shocks remained standard equipment on the El Camino, allowing the driver to compensate for a load.

What made it famous: The 1967 El Camino followed the Chevelle model's styling facelift with a new grille, front bumper, and trim. Also that year brought the collapsible steering column and options of disc brakes and Turbo Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission. Plus, it was the second year the 396 V8 could be had in the El Camino.

Why I would want one: It's so versatile. It can be used as a work utility vehicle, it can be a pampered garage queen, and it lends itself well to customizing or street / strip rodding. Plus, I've never had an El Camino. ( I did however, own a Ford Ranchero....competition to the Chevrolet light hauler.)

Fun fact: A fourth generation El Camino was used as the main vehicle in the TV program "My Name Is Earl" on NBC.
