AJ’s Car of the Day: 1963 Chevrolet Impala Convertible

Car: Chevrolet Impala Convertible

Year: 1963

What makes it special: Beginning with the 1961 model, the Impala was now on GM’s B-platform. The 1963 Chevrolet Impala was given rectilinear styling with an engine-turned aluminum rear taillight panel.

What made it famous: The most popular powerplant’s for the 1963 Impala was the small-block 283 and 327 V8’s. The Impala also featured a new coved instrument panel with indicator lights for engine conditions. An option for the 1963 Impala was an in-dash factory tachometer situated above the steering wheel, but was rarely ordered.

Why I would want one: I love the 1963 Impala. My favorite year, with crisp lines, low stance and overall stunning looks.

Fun fact: The 1978 Cheech & Chong movie “Up In Smoke” featured a 1963 Chevrolet Impala Hardtop, which was given the name “Love Machine.”
