50 Years, 50 Albums 1988: Van Halen ‘OU812’

The year 1988; MTV at its peak; and songs you heard on the radio, you can see on TV…ah the Eighties. The three albums up for voting this week got plenty of both. Bon Jovi’s New Jersey, Poison’s Open up and Say Ahh and Van Halen’s OU812. The eighth studio album from Van Halen got the most votes and for good reason too, the album totally kicks ass! From the first track “Mine All Mine” to “Cabo Wabo” and “Finished what you Started”, the album really showed how well Sammy and Eddie worked together. The working title of the album was supposed to be “Bone”, which Alex hated. Sammy saw a delivery truck with OU812 on the plate they all thought it was funny. And the rest is history. Some say it was a response to David Lee Roth’s Eat ’em and Smile album.

PODCAST – Thursday, September 9: Rating The Show’s Driver’s License Photos; AJ Vs. Cell Phone; CT United Ride This Weekend

Chaz and AJ were talking about how they handle getting pulled over, when everyone started criticizing their own license photos. (0:00)

Dumb Ass News – Once again, AJ fights a losing battle with technology. This time, he tried to record a new outgoing voicemail message on his cell phone. (9:47)

Carmine Appice was on to talk about the recent cover Vanilla Fudge did of The Supremes, “Stop in the Name of Love.” He also talked about the drum-off happening between him and his brother, Vinny. (16:31)

The school year is brand new, but already there are stories of teachers duct-taping masks to 9-year-old students. Chaz and AJ asked the Tribe to call in the craziest things they remember teachers doing from when they were in school. (0:00)

The teacher stories continued in news, with audio from a Las Vegas report about the parent that is furious with the substitute teacher for using duct tape to keep a mask on her 9-year-old’s face. (4:44)

Connecticut is laying claim to inventing the fish sandwich. Anthony D’Amato was on the phone to share how his grandfather is the first known person to put fried fish on toast. back in 1933. (21:45)

Liberty DeVitto, long-time drummer with Billy Joel called in this morning to talk about the live album they recorded in 1980, which included a performance from Toad’s Place. Liberty shared stories (with Sesame Street playing in the background,) and talked about the show he’s doing in Orange with the Lords of 52nd Street this Saturday. (33:57)

Dumb Ass News – An elderly patient was delivered to the wrong house, after leaving hospice care. The entire, awkward conversation was caught on a security camera. (46:00)
