Throwback Concert: Nirvana at The Moon 1991

Throwback Concert: Nirvana at The Moon 1991

99.1 PLR celebrates 50 years! This week we are celebrating another great year in our history: 1991!

That year PLR welcomed Nirvana to The Moon on Walley Avenue in New Haven. The Moon wasn’t a very big club, but it certainly hosted some big names in a short period of time in the early ’90s. Band like The Smashing Pumpkins, Spin Doctors, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones all graced the tiny stage at The Moon.

But perhaps the biggest act to play The Moon? Nirvana on a Thursday night in September 1991. Just two days before the release of Nevermind!

Today we look back at this historic show, which was Nirvana’s first, and only, performance in Connecticut.

Wednesday, March 10: Chaz And AJ’s Movie Make-Over; A Tribe Member Wins Big At Mohegan Sun; Dumb Ass News

Cancel culture has threatened a lot of movies we enjoyed in the past. Chaz and AJ enlisted movie critic Joe Meyers and the Tribe to help their “Movie Makeover.” The Tribe nominate a movie they think cancel culture may target next, Joe Meyers explains which part of the movie is most troublesome today, and Chaz and AJ work to “fix” the scene to save the movie for future generations. The first nomination, Blazing Saddles, proved to be especially difficult. (0:00)

Tribe member Rob recently won a ton of money at Mohegan Sun. Rob was on the phone to explain the game he was playing, why the table had to be shut down for two hours after his big win, and the first thing he wants to buy with the prize money. (19:32)

Dumb Ass News – Would you let your friend cut off your wiener just to go viral? Two geniuses tried this, it worked, but now one of them is in jail. (32:07)

PODCAST – Tuesday, March 9: Vaccine Guidelines; Dumb Ass News; CT’s Best Pizza Places

The CDC released some good news, their recommended guidelines for fully vaccinated people visiting other people. How did something so simple get so complicated? Then, we all had to be told what kind of clothes to wear on the day we receive our vaccine shot.

Attorney Norm Pattis said he believes that there is more than “just a chance” that the officer involved in the killing of George Floyd will not be indicted on major charges.

Dumb Ass News – A woman in an electric wheelchair successfully robbed a bank! Her getaway, far less successful.

The Tribe called in their “extra” nominations for the best pizza places the state, after the obvious Top 7 were all named recently in an article on the internet.
